There is another way to ink in illustrator that is pretty cool too. Draw a stroke with the pen tool using beziers, then convert strokes to outlines. Then use the direct select tool to move points to make certain strokes heavier. It has a very stylized look. I don't use it though. I've actually thought about doing that. I'm usually pretty fast with the pen tool in Illustrator, but for work like this, not as fast as actually drawing with the "pen".
I'm currently working on a piece that is entirely drawn in Illlustrator. Hopefully I'll finish it some time soon.

Yeah inking in Photoshop is a b*tch. I have a wacom...
after a while I started inking in Illustrator. You can set the
smoothness of the stroke etc, so you can tell the pc to smooth out curves when you need to.
